Northport council to hold community meeting to discuss a new school system | News
NORTHPORT, AL (WBRC)- Northport city leaders want to hear from their residents before moving forward with the possibility of forming an independent school system.
A community meeting is scheduled for April 8 at 6 p.m. at the Northport Civic Center on McFarland Boulevard. Earlier in March the council discussed the idea during a work session.
No action has been taken but that could change depending on what parents and other residents have to say.
"But we're going to have the chance to investigate if it would be beneficial to our students, to our city. And if not, then we won't do it. But we want to investigate it," Mayor Bobby Herndon said.
If citizens favor breaking away from the county school system, Herndon says the city will then commission a feasiblity study on the move.
