NORTHPORT, AL (WBRC)- The Northport City Council discussed the possibility of forming its own school system at a Thursday night work session.
The council members say they want to look into conduct a feasibility study on breaking away from the Tuscaloosa County School system.
Mayor Bobby Herndon says he likes the idea of schools in the city limits having their own identity. He says Northport's nine schools make up 33 percent of the county's students.
This is a longterm goal for the city and the mayor says there will be a lot of steps to take before anything is decided.
